Abstraction Games has announced that they will porting Shadowgate, The Uninvited, and Déjà Vu to the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 31, 2017. If you’re not sure about these old classics, Abstraction Games has compiled an interactive website that contains demos for all three games.
The link is below if you’re at all interested, it’s completely free. It has a mini puzzle game before you can start the demos, however. It will really get you in the mood, as it is in the style of the point-and-click adventures of old, complete with lava lamp and a TV with a dial for the channels. Find all three titles and you’ll be able to choose the one you want to play first.
All three games are text-based adventures, with a few clicks to investigate the world around you and a little puzzle-solving to get you to the next stage or room. Déjà Vu is a murder mystery set in 1942 where you wake up in a seedy bathroom. You’ve got a healthy dose of amnesia and evidence of a crime committed all over your person. It’s up to the player to figure out what is going and who actually murdered who.
Shadowgate is the fantasy side of things, where you come to a ruined castle. It looks sinister and not a little evil. There is no way but forward of course, to figure out what the “Seed of Prophesy” means and what it has to do with you.
The Uninvited is a horror game, haunted mansion style. You just saw a ghost, almost died in a car accident, and your sister is missing. What better way to find her than to strut straight into the eerie mansion and have the door slam behind you. Nothing could possibly go wrong, right?
These are set up a bit like the browser emulators that are just this side legal (depending the game) and one of the best ways to preserve old video games as their original consoles become obsolete. If you end up liking any of the three games, you can purchase them as a bundle for your system of choice as listed above. It is not clear if you can buy them separately and no price was listed either.
