“The Wizarding world you thought you knew is much larger than you imagined.”
Earlier this year on Pottermore, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling revealed the existence of other magical schools around the world, including the North American school, Ilvermorny. With the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie coming out this fall (which is set in 1920s New York City), Rowling has decided to reveal further backstory regarding magical history in North America to help tie the movie in with the wizarding world we already know.
According to a post on the official Pottermore site, The History of Magic in North America is a series of four interactive stories by Rowling that will debut this week on Pottermore. It will cover subjects such as Ilvermorny (the American Hogwarts), Skin-walkers (a Native American Legend), the Salem witch trials, and the American equivalent of the Ministry of Magic (the Magical Congress). All this will lead up to the arrival of Newt Scamander in New York on November 18th.
If you, like us, have dreamed of attending Hogwarts and wondered what the American school might be like, be sure to tune-in. The first story will appear on Pottermore Tuesday, March 8th at 9 AM EST, with the rest presumably being added throughout the week.
