New Marvel Avengers Bedding Omits Any Female Superheroes

Marvel Avengers Bedding

At first, we were really excited when we came across these new, officially-licensed Marvel comic book sheets and Marvel’s Avengers Stripe Comforter from Think Geek. Apparently, superhero bedding is no longer just for children. Per the site’s description, they feature such superheroes as Captain America, Daredevil, Hulk, Iron Man, Luke Cage, Spiderman, Thor, and Falcon. Notably absent from this list? Any female superheroes. This discovery diminished our excitement somewhat. No Black Widow? No Scarlet Witch?

This decision is especially disappointing in the wake of all the controversy surrounding Marvel’s Black Widow merchandise (or the conspicuous lack thereof) following the release of The Avengers movies. Considering she played as big a role as any of the male heroes in the movie, you’d think she would have at least earned a spot on their sheets. (For the record, we carefully scrutinized the product images).

This seems like a thoughtless omission, and it’s not the first time we’ve seen licensed products with female heroines excluded (see: new Star Wars Monopoly Has No Female Characters). I’m sure plenty of comic book fans would love to sleep with Natasha Romanoff every night.

If your inner child wins out, though, and you don’t mind bedding with slightly sexist undertones, then let the Hulk lovingly tuck you in every night. Let’s face it; “grown-up” bedding is so boring. The sheets come in sizes ranging from twin to king and include fitted sheet, flat sheet, and pillowcases. The comforter comes in twin/full or queen/king and the reverse is solid black. Both together will run you $120-$150, depending on size. That’s not a bad price if you’re feeling overwhelming nostalgia for the comic book bedding of your childhood.

Price: $120-$150 (Set)
