Star Trek: Picard and Data

Engage! Join the USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D and take charge in the captain’s chair with this collectible Hallmark ornament. Jean-Luc Picard sits confidently while Lieutenant Commander Data stands by him, ready for action. Featuring many phrases and dialogue from the television show, this collectible is a good choice for any New Generation Trekkie out there. It’s great to see ornaments that have dialogue to add to the fun, nerdy times this holiday season, and this is no exception.

Doctor Who Bad Wolf TARDIS Ornament

Groot Christmas Ornament

If you’re looking to make your Christmas tree just a little geekier, this Groot ornament is sure to do the trick. From the Hallmark Keepsake line, this depiction of Groot is from the most recent film in the series, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

For the sake of convenience, Hallmark has been kind enough to offer this little Groot online, and it’s available on Amazon. This way, there is no need to walk into your nearest Hallmark store and risk sorting through all the Disney princesses to get at the Marvel ornaments.

Groot plays “Flash Light” by Parliament with a push of a button at his feet. It’s not the most known song for most of the younger audience that might enjoy Guardians of the Galaxy, but it is the epitome of funk from the 70s.

George Clinton, the man that led the band, wrote funk into the pages of music history books. As such, though Parliament may not be well known to younger folks, the band made quite the mark in the 70s. Nevertheless, nothing like that old funk music to remind you of everything Star-Lord and Rocket.

To get that music going, you’ll need 2 LR44 batteries that are included. Just in case the batteries run out of juice, however, they are completely replaceable. This Groot stands at 4.2″ tall and his base is 3.3″ wide and 1.8″ deep. He is made entirely out of plastic, so you don’t have to worry about dropping him, especially if your pet decides the song is annoying and takes Groot off the tree.

Groot looks exactly as he does in the film. No longer the Baby Groot in his little plant pot, teenage Groot is short but sturdy with a tough-looking core and thick branch legs. He wears a small smile and seems poised mid-dance move.

His eyes are the usual beady black and his “hair” is brown with a little moss here and there. The base he stands on is silver and textured much like the floor of a space ship, giving the appearance of metal grating.

Pokeball Christmas Ornament

These Poké Balls are perfectly fit to sit right next to all your other classic plain red, green, silver, or whichever color theme you decide on this year.

Though October might be a little early to start thinking about Christmas — with Halloween not even over yet — it is never too early to start with online orders. ThinkGeek is great with shipping, but anything close to Christmas and the post office slows down to a crawl. So a little over a month in advance will at least ensure you get all of your geeky Christmas decorations on time.

As to the Poké Balls themselves, this set of four has that metallic sheen that glass ornaments tend to have, giving that extra classy look. They are 3″ in diameter, so on the bigger side of the usual ball ornaments you’ve got tucked away in the basement.

The design of these Poké Balls is rather precise to the game versions. The top is bright red, the button a clean white. Instead of the usual coat of paint to denote the two halves, these ornaments actually have a physical black crease in the middle. In addition to the white button at the front even popping out a bit.

Again, subtle and classy. These don’t look like cheap knock-offs and are priced about the same as the more elaborate set of ornaments out there. Snow and winter scenes always seem to cost a pretty penny before Christmas is over.

Despite their real appearance, we advise you not to throw these ornaments; catch your Pokémon with the Poké Balls in your game — you’ll have a far higher chance of actually catching the Pokémon. Also, you won’t have to clean up the thinnest of thin glass shards and particles.
