According to The Hollywood Reporter, the dates for Deadpool 2, The New Mutants, and Gambit have changed. Some for the better, others not so much. Deadpool 2 is getting the jump on Solo: A Star Wars Story (which comes out May 25), moving its date from June 1 to May 18, 2018. No one can ever compete with a Star Wars film, not even Deadpool 2, so avoiding that competition somewhat is probably for the best.Deadpool 2, The New Mutants, and Gambit Release Dates

Ryan Reynolds himself confirmed the new date on Twitter today, with the a lovely photo of Bea and Arthur (his two katanas). If you’re not sure what Deadpool 2 will be all about, we know that we will meet Domino. She is a fellow mercenary, though she has a slightly more accurate moral compass than Deadpool.

As she usually has to tolerate Deadpool’s ceaseless flirting and blasĂ© attitude, she does not often work with Deadpool for very long. It will be interesting to see how they handle Deadpool’s canon flirtatiousness, especially when Vanessa still has a part in Deadpool 2.

The New Mutants has been moved quite a ways, from April 13, 2018 to February 22, 2019. The Hollywood Reporter states that the move is so that the film does not “overlap with X-Men movies in certain overseas marketplaces.”

Meaning that they don’t want Deadpool 2 and The New Mutants in theaters at the same time. If you think that reason is a bit flimsy, especially with almost a year between the dates, another reason is that 20th Century Fox doesn’t think The New Mutants is scary enough yet. This information comes from The Wrap, who reported on the same dates.

Last but not least, Gambit has been moved from Valentine’s Day in 2019 to June 7, 2019. Apparently the film would make a better summer Marvel movie. Or, the change might be because the film just lost its third director in a row.

Gore Verbinski apparently had a scheduling conflict, nothing more. No “artistic differences” here. Fox has struggled to get Gambit going for quite some time, and luckily Channing Tatum is still on board to play the role. All they need now is a director that sticks.
