With the recent Halloween reboot/sequel hitting retail shelves, Blumhouse producer Ryan Turek was recently interviewed and touched upon what iconic horror franchise he would like to work on next. And there was no hesitation from Turek that it would be a Friday the 13th reboot. spent a bit of time with the producer during an interview in which he confirmed the news. It’s an opinion shared by both he and his Blumhouse partner, Jason Blum. And there doesn’t appear to be any competition from other franchises, with Turek stating “Without question, at the top of my list would be Friday the 13th. Friday the 13th would be the franchise that I would love to work on next.”

The rights to the horror franchise are quite complicated though, as Turek noted during the interview. But if things worked out for the Blumhouse team, it sounds as though Turek has a general idea of what he and his team would need to accomplish:

“It would be absolutely incredible to do. I feel a little bit smoother, because, I think there are only a few promises you’d need to make when it comes to Friday the 13th. That’s, you know, you gotta deliver on a summer camp. You gotta deliver on counselors. You gotta deliver on Jason Voorhees.”

A Blumhouse take on the series would not be the first attempt at a Friday the 13th reboot. In 2009, Friday the 13th was released and was essentially a reimagining of the series’ first four films. It was directed by Marcus Nispel from a script written by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. Though it fared okay financial, the reboot attempt was panned by critics with a mere 25% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

With how well Halloween did at the box office last year, it wouldn’t be surprising if the folks that currently hold the series’ rights were interested in a potential partnership with the Blumhouse team.
