Announced just this morning, Sony Pictures and Activision have announced a new Ghostbusters game that will be releasing this summer.
Somewhat surprisingly, the game doesn’t put you in the shoes of the movie’s main protagonists. In fact, the game supposedly takes place after the events of the new movie. While the main team is touring the country to fight high-profile ghosts, a team of new recruits is left behind to watch over the station. As you could guess, ghosts start making a mess of New York City and it’s up to the new team to stop them. While we admit that it sounds like they couldn’t get the rights to use the main team’s likeness, we are glad to see this isn’t just a complete movie tie-in.
The game plays like a third-person action role-playing game similar to Diablo or Helldivers. You and up to three of your friends can level up your character’s gear and abilities by fighting ghosts, completing missions, and finding hidden collectibles. With each character having their own special abilities and play style, a team effort is key.
Ghostbusters releases July 12 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Pre-orders are already available.Additionally, Ghostbusters: Slime City was announced. This mobile game lets you become a Ghostbuter. You can team up with other players in asynchronous co-up and compete with others with leaderboards. Proton packs can be crafted and customized with many different components and your own headquarters can be upgraded.
We aren’t exactly sure what this mobile game will end up looking like, but you can expect it around the same time as the console Ghostbusters game for many different mobile devices.
