According to GamesIndustry.biz, the new game is so far called “Project 2” and will be an open world game and not have any racing. The founder of Playground Games, Ralph Fulton, assures us that they won’t be abandoning the Forza series, or racing games, at all but that this is simply a venue where they “can always get better, we can always strive to get better but we’d love to prove ourselves in a different genre.
That’s another goal of Project 2, to allow us to do that.
With the addition of a new studio, they’re planning on hiring more “very talented people with experience that we don’t have.”
So to any game designers out there, keep a watch on those job postings to see if anything sounds cool to you. Playground Games will be hoping to double the current number they employ, which is 115, and to provide career development for those who have “grown up in this studio, grown in experience over three games of increasing quality, and are now in a position where they are looking to develop their careers. We want them to do that here rather than somewhere else, but with only one team the opportunities for that are limited.”
Fluton also mentions that Project 2 could be multiplatform or exclusive to a console other than Xbox. It will certainly be interesting to see where this new game will end up and what it will be, if not a racing game. Do you think Playground Games will surprise us with something unique? Or is it a bad idea to change genres? Let us know in the comments below!
