Looks like the content updates are finally going to start rolling in, as Niantic has announced that Pokémon Go will be receiving 80 brand new Pokémon from the “Johto region in the Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver video games, as well as Pokémon with gender-specific variations.”
The update will come sometimes this week and comes with all sort of other goodies in addition to the Pokémon. These include, new evolutions, encounter gameplay, berries, and expanded outfit options for trainers.
You’ll be able to find the pocket monsters as usual, by going out and exploring the depths of your city (don’t forget to stay safe while you do!). Once acquired, “some Pokémon originally discovered in the Kanto region will soon be able to evolve—into Pokémon that inhabit the Johto region! Be on the lookout for new Evolution items at PokéStops, which you’ll need to evolve some Pokémon.”
The new berries are going to come in handy when catching these new Pokémon too, as “the Nanab Berry, which slows a Pokémon’s movements, and the Pinap Berry, which doubles the amount of Candy received if the next catch attempt succeeds.”
As to the new evolutions, this means you can now evolve Zubat into Crobat, Slowpoke into Slowking, Onix into Steelix, Chansey into Blissey, Seadra into Kingdra, Scyther into Scizor, Eevee into Espeon and Umbreon, and Porygon into Porygon 2. And the starter Pokémon now include Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile.
Personally, as tempting as new Pokémon are for me, I’m waiting for the trading and PvP update before I get back into this game. Are you in the same boat, or are you done with Pokémon Go forever? Let us know in the comments below!
