The 24th Overwatch Hero “Is Not Who You Think It Is”

In just a matter of hours, Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan pulled the rug from under everyone’s feet with a single forum post: “24 is not who you think it is.” Months of speculations about the Doomfist character found in the latest PTR code are defenestrated in less time than it takes to say “thrown out the window.”overwatch beta response

The sass and can of worms all began in the Overwatch forums under a topic thread created by user Lord. This fellow fan only wanted to make a space to point out the lack of any new sitting emotes for Sombra.

Kaplan decided to helpfully point out that:

“it’s on the schedule. Unfortunately, it is months out. New heroes will most likely not have sit and laugh emotes for some period of time after their release. We’d rather not hold new hero releases for these emotes. But we do plan to add them over time.”

Then a little while later, added that “it’s more of a prioritization issue… We’re always asking ourselves ‘what would make the biggest impact for the most people’ when we prioritize. Right now, we feel like introducing a new hero to the line up would be more impactful to the game.”

Well, an off-hand comment like that can’t just be left alone, this is the internet we’re talking about here. User ohmybob decided to take the bait and asked tongue-in-cheek, “you can list the heroes you are working on if you you’d like. What is said on this forum stays on this forum. We won’t tell anyone.”

Surprisingly, Kaplan replied but in a way that opens the internet’s version of Pandora’s box, which is almost worse than the real thing. Whether Kaplan was kidding around too and 24 is really who we think it is or not, the flood of speculation will arise.

If not Doomfist, who will be the next hero? What would surprise Overwatch fans the most? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
