Developers Frustrated Over No Crossplay For Tekken 7

Eric Hartness, Vice President of Marketing at Bandai Namco has stated that Tekken 7, to be released June 2nd 2017, “promises to deliver an uncompromising fighting game experience” and that “fighting game tournament players should be on notice as we’re setting our sights on lighting up the tournament scene with the hardest hitting Tekken game ever.”

It seems despite the high praise and promotions, there has been some frustration bubbling under the developer surface.Developers Frustrated Over No Crossplay For Tekken 7

It all started with the question of crossplay for the game. It has been confirmed by Bandai Namco and producer Katsuhiro Harada that “there will not be a cross play feature for Tekken 7” between any of the platforms the game will be on, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Then someone said “hope you’ll have a change of heart and make Tekken 7 cross-platform compatible with PC.” Well, that apparently lit the fire as Harada responded with “it’s NOT my heart & our issue. It’s 1st Party issue & platform security policy issue. Remember, SFV & KI is Exclusive PS4 or X1.”

And don’t try to suggest that any crossplay is possible between PC and Xbox One, or PC and PS4, because of Bandai Namco’s “security policy P2P can not be used between 3 platforms (Can’t split PC ver). Don’t ask me. ASK 1st party.” This seemed to herald the last straw for Harada as he stated yet again “can’t split PC version…DON’T ASK ME AGAIN. Ask 1st party!!!!”

So it’s obviously not for lack of trying and it’s definitely something the developers wanted but couldn’t manage due to outside forces.

Are you disappointed by the lack of crossplay as much as Harada is? Let us know in the comments below!
