After the numerous NX rumors and bits of speculation, we finally have official word from Nintendo regarding their plans for their next console, as the company has announced that the Nintendo NX release date is set for March 2017.
“For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed “NX” with a brand-new concept. NX will be launched in March 2017 globally.”
The announcement came via the company’s financial results last night while we were all sleeping. And what’s more, we also learned that The Legend of Zelda will launch simultaneously on Wii U and NX, and it won’t be released until 2017.
Finally, Nintendo confirmed to IGN that the NX won’t even appear at E3 2016, but it will be fully unveiled later on in 2016. This leads us to believe that Nintendo won’t be returning to the stage at E3 this year, but they’ll, instead, opt for a Nintendo Direct during the conference. Also, we can’t imagine that Nintendo will have a strong E3 if they’re not going to be talking about the NX, as we can’t imagine they have a ton of Wii U games in the pipeline.
