On this Star Wars Day, EA has appropriately announced that Respawn Entertainment, developer of Titanfall, are working on a third person Star Wars game.
In a lengthy blog post on the Respawn blog, project lead Stig Asmussen said:
“We promise to pay respect to the Star Wars legacy at all times, a fact that will be constantly reinforced and honored as a central game design tenet. Fans should expect the exemplary level of quality first established at Respawn with Titanfall, a game that epitomizes our studio’s dedication to slick, larger-than-life action and fun, groundbreaking mechanics.”
EA took to their own blog to make their own announcement. Interestingly enough, EA noted that they “have multiple studios building a VARIETY of great Star Wars games spanning different genres.”
A new third person Star Wars game has been rumored before, and now we’ve got confirmation that Respawn is the studio behind the mysterious project. Of course, we also know that Dead Space‘s Visceral Games is also working on an unannounced Star Wars game. But, as Respawn noted in their post, there’s a lot that can be done with a 3rd person Star Wars game, so we’re anxiously awaiting some gameplay and/or news about how this game (and Visceral’s game) is going to play. There’s a lot we don’t know about the projects as of right now, such as a timeframe or even how far along they are in developing it. But again, hopefully we’ll learn more at E3 2016.
As a side note, we’ll also be interested to learn what consoles this game will be on. Sure, it’ll come to PS4, Xbox One and maybe PC, but is it going to come to whatever the Nintendo NX turns out to be? Will there be a PS3 and Xbox 360 port? So many unanswered questions.
