According to an off-hand comment from vice president and executive editor at Marvel Digital Media Ryan Penagos, a sprinkling of speculation from NeoGaf, and a tweet, Insomniac’s Spider-Man should be coming out sometime this year.
The comment comes from an episode of Marvel’s show Thwip, in which Penagos does his best to hype two of Marvel’s upcoming games, Spider-Man and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Spider-Man will be a PS4 exclusive and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will be on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Penagos stated clearly that both games are “on the horizon for 2017.”
Speculation from NeoGaf states that because Insomniac’s other game, Sunset Overdrive, had a trailer at E3 2013, gameplay at E3 2014, and was released that fall, that Spider-Man might very well follow the same pattern.
Keeping in mind that we saw the cinematic trailer for Spider-Man last year at E3 2016. Especially since the Blu-ray release of Spider-Man: Homecoming is around the same time, Sony might want to market the two together.
The tweet is from Ryan Penagos as well, in which he hints that his “final meeting” might have something to do with Spider-Man, though he wasn’t particularly clear about it.
Remember, this is just rumor, even if it is technically from Panagos himself. The statements are far too vague to be concrete and anything more than hype.
