PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds had a major update yesterday, as Bluehole Inc has delivered the game’s first big monthly update, as promised. The update contains a plethora of both bug fixes and balance changes, but one slight change is already creating buzz: you can now use those useless pans as shields.
Now, frying pans are able to block bullets, including from shotguns, handguns, and even AWM rounds (the most powerful rounds in the game). Players simply have to have the pan in their inventory unequipped, and it’ll stay above the player’s butt cheek, protecting it from bullets as you run away.
While obviously not a game changer, it is definitely an interesting update that could potentially save a life or two down the line. Now, instead of ignoring those iron pans scattered about the massive map, we recommend keeping one in your inventory.
The PUBG update not only changes the properties of the pan, but it also adds some new weapons as well, including a brand new SMG (called the Vector SMG) as well as the crossbow. Bluehole also added a Ballistic Mask, and 2x Aimpoint Scope. As far as vehicles are concerned, there’s now a Motorbike with a sidecar, with a sidecar-less version on the way in a future update. Although, we’re not sure why anyone would want to expose themselves in the way that a motorcycle would, but to each his own, I guess (although, the patch notes do mention that a known issue with the motorbike is that you can’t shoot out the tires, giving a slight advantage in the early game). There is also now three additional color variations for the Dacia.
Most importantly, though, is that the new update irons out some of the game’s performance issues. Graphic performance has been improved on PCs with minimum system requirements met, and server performance has also been improved in relation to items spawned in the world. This is definitely a much-appreciated change because, even with my beefy gaming PC, I was having framerate issues in-game that would lead to my death.
