Friday the 13th: The Game announces it’s launch day of May 26th, 2017 with a trailer featuring quite a bit of gameplay and the various characters you can play as. This game was crowdfunded on kickstarter a few years ago, and is being developed by Gun Media and IllFonic. Now the full-fledged game will be making an appearance soon in the coming month on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It comes pretty cheap too, only at $40 for a digital download.
The gameplay itself is fairly unique, as it is solely multiplayer based but still third-person survival. You play as any of the six Camp Crystal Lake counselors or as Jason himself and essentially try to be the last one standing. Stealth can be used, and the counselors can either take on Jason individually and as a team, or work together to escape entirely and not confront Jason at all.
Playing as Jason is probably one of the most intriguing features of this game, and involves stalking the counselors and killing them. You can choose which incarnation of Jason you’d like to play from the movies too, in addition to two original designs from the developers’ creative minds.
The gameplay reminds me a lot of Evolve, except the other way around of course. The monster hunting the humans, and only with far better execution and less combat heavy. It’s a little disappointing that Friday the 13th doesn’t have a single player mode, but I suppose that’s what Until Dawn is for.
