After the backlash from fans about Halo 5 not focusing enough on Master Chief, fans have demanded that he make a reappearance. Luckily, according to an interview with GamesTM magazine (via WCCFTech), 343 Industries head Kiki Wolfkill and Halo franchise director Frank O’Connor have made it clear they have heeded the criticism of fans for Halo 6.
O’Connor states that the studio has realized fans wanted more of Master Chief’s story, and were quite disappointed when Halo 5 came out. Indeed, there was such a volume of demand, that O’Connor and the studio have been revising how the next game will turn out. 343 Industries will focus on world building for Halo 6, in order to make it “a little bit more realistic and compelling.”
In addition, O’Connor has stated that there will be no new playable characters. The focus will be entirely on Master Chief and the world itself. So if nothing else, it sounds like Halo 6 will feature Master Chief as the main playable character.
The man has certainly built a reputation over the years as cynical but extremely loyal to his team and the chain of command. Fans have been with Master Chief through all the rough patches, it’s easy to understand why they would be disappointed when he didn’t appear in Halo 5. It would certainly be welcome to see 343 Industries further develop such a strong character that has a deeply emotional connection to fans.
