Looks like the Assassin’s Creed series is going back to its roots too. According to a user on Reddit, who apparently works at a printing company that receives orders for pre-order cards now and again. This user has seen orders for Far Cry 5, but chose to focus their information on the Assassin’s Creed order they saw. They judged by the artwork that it was “the Egypt game” we’ve been calling Assassin’s Creed: Empire. The actual title is supposed to be Assassin’s Creed: Origins.
The user describes the artwork as a city with a pyramid in the background. In the centre, was an unknown assassin walking toward the city and carrying a shield, bow, and a seemingly hawk-like figure on their shoulder. Interesting, as at least shields have never been featured in an Assassin’s Creed game. The combat simply didn’t allow for it when parrying was far more encouraged than actually blocking.
The user also says that the Gold edition of the game will have the season pass and steelbook to go with it. They didn’t know what the price would be, but it seems this isn’t the first time they discover games before they are announced. Usually, the user states, the game is revealed before the cards are shipped, and these will be shipped May 30th.
I do not put much stock in this rumor, there’s too little detail and we don’t have enough confirmed information to compare this to. Especially since the leaked photo they refers to that was supposed to be from the game, Ubisoft confirmed that it was not.
That said, it would not surprise me if everyone got the same idea Activision did for Call of Duty: WWII around the same time to go back to the roots of their largest franchises. Which means that Far Cry 5 might be back on the island from Far Cry 3. If they manage it like Activision did, sans the existence of similar games like Battlefield 1, they might just pull of this trend.
But is going back to the roots something Assassin’s Creed should be doing? Or Far Cry, for that matter? Let us know in the comments below!
