Fans of the series are fairly ecstatic, as both Parappa and Gitaroo Man were quite innovative for the rhythm-based game genre. Most games still do not reach the latte games’ heights of story telling in addition to the exciting rhythm. Perhaps ever since Guitar Hero came out, the genre realized it didn’t have to put much effort into the story side of things as long as people could play all the classic songs they knew.
Though I would argue that there are some mobile games that have plenty of story to unlock and explore both through the music and the narrative, like Voez and Deemo. Both are definitely more than a simple soundtrack to interact with. Even if you are not a fan of rhythm-based games, I highly suggest checking out both games on your mobile. It feels a little like learning to play the piano and it’s interesting how the music weaves itself into the story. Story-driven rhythm-based games hardly died with Parappa, even if they have lost their popularity since.
That said, there is no word yet on when Project Rap Rabbit will be released or on what systems. More is said to be coming soon, so stay tuned to Nerdmuch.com to find out more.
