One long-standing rumor regarding Nintendo and the Switch is that there is a Mario and Rabbids game in the works. The rumor actually stems back from Laura Kate Dale around last year’s E3, and we thought we’d see it announced during that time. However, it has yet to be officially announced. Luckily, we don’t need official confirmation.
This afternoon, leaked art [via Nintendo World Report] for what we now know is officially titled Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle hit the web, showing Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Yoshi, and four Rabbids dressed as those characters. What’s more, more artwork confirms that there will just be these eight playable characters, each of which has their own playstyles and personalities.
The leaked art — which appears to be from a power point presentation of sorts — also notes that there will be four world environments to discover, complete with puzzles and secret zones. The game will have a story mode length of approximately 20 hours. Also, the game will apparently feature turn-based combat, complete with upgradeable and collectible weapons for each character. There will be seven enemy archetypes, and 1 boss/mid-boss per world. The game will also have multiplayer co-op, playing to the strengths of the Nintendo Switch.
It appears that the marketing plan is for Nintendo to first officially reveal the game at E3 with some hands-on play sessions as well. In July, there will be previews, followed by a presence at Gamescom and reviews in August. This likely means that the game will launch in August as well, although the game has a tentative “August/September 2017” release date.
Of course, with E3 2017 right around the corner, we won’t have to wait long for official confirmation.
