PlayerUnknown has announced a large update for their Early Access version of Battlegrounds. The update includes mostly bug fixes and various improvements to sound and environment. Much needed, of course, but far more interesting are the additions of a new sniper rifle and motorbike. The sniper rifle is described as a “VSS. A suppressed sniper rifle with permanent 4X scope & chambered for 9mm ammo.” You can find this rather nice sounding weapon in care packages and very rarely in standard loot.
Due to snipers being a particular favorite in the game, this weapon will probably be one of the most coveted items. I’m a sniper in FPS games myself, so I can definitely understand the draw. Nothing is more satisfying than squeezing out a headshot in the rain to the pinprick in the distance.
The motorbike is not further described beyond the various improvements it was given, like you can now puncture the wheel and it will make a sound. Or when you blow it up, the fences nearby will be destroyed too, leaving burn marks for the sake of a little realism.
The rest of the changes are quite extensive, focused mainly on improving glitches in the player experience and adding a few environmental flourishes. You can check out the full list on their Steam page. The update will arrive this Thursday, May 25th, at 1am PT.
There is no word yet on when Battlegrounds will be leaving Early Access, though it has sold 2 million copies already. It is available only on the PC, but a console version is currently in development.
