In celebration of the 35th anniversary of Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner, Entertainment Weekly received an exclusive trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049. There is some new footage in this trailer, and plenty of behind the scenes content.
Including quotes from stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, and Jared Leto. Gosling seemed impressed with the solid script, Ford found it interesting to “try on new clothes” and come back to a role as that character’s older self, and Jared Leto seems to be behaving himself. Perhaps the latter was given a good talking to by his PR agent since Suicide Squad.
Director Villeneuve and producer Ridley Scott were interviewed in the trailer as well, giving their respective takes on the film. Villeneuve seemed somewhat terrified that Scott was going to hate it, stating quite clearly how much he respected the original film. Scott was more blasé, saying that though the first Blade Runner was meant to be a standalone film, there was always more of the story to tell.
With that in mind, Blade Runner 2049 is set thirty years after the original, and follows a new blade runner by the name of Officer K. The officer discovers a secret that would could throw the already dystopic society into chaos. his investigation leads him to seek out Rick Deckard, who has apparently been missing since the events of the last film.
Ryan Gosling plays the part of Officer K and Harrison Ford reprises his role as Deckard. They will be joined by Ana de Armas and Robin Wright. Blade Runner 2049 hits theatres October 6, 2017.
