Activision has finally brought us the details for the Nazi Zombie mode for Call of Duty: WWII, and it seems like we’re getting a whole story campaign out of this. The co-op mode has a completely original “dark and sinister” story that takes the player through Mittelburg, a Bavarian village in Germany.
The player’s team is there to do what is essentially the plot of the wonderful film, Inglorious Bastards. Your team is to recover classic works of art stolen by the various members of the Axis Powers during WWII. Mittelburg is apparently where all these treasures are stored, the only catch is that the art is guarded by zombies and plenty more “twisted and occult horrors.”
The team members the player will be able to choose from, as has already been revealed, includes the voices of David Tennant (Dr. Who, Broadchurch) as Drostan Hynd, Elodie Yung (G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Daredevil) as Olivia Durant, Katheryn Winnick (Vikings, The Dark Tower)as Marie Fischer, Udo Kier (Blade, Melancholia) as Dokter Peter Straub and Ving Rhames (Pulp Fiction, Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation).
Your team is called MFAA (Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives) and features the personalities of characters Jefferson Potts (the perfect balance between military and academic prowess), Olivia Durant (historian and weapons expert, likely the sniper of the team), Drostan Hynd (the rogue and former thief), and Marie Fischer (the engineer and tactician, and she’s here to rescue her brother Klaus too).
Activision hasn’t mentioned who plays Potts or Klaus, or who Rhames voices. The similarities to Inglorious Bastards are quite strong, save for the addition of zombies. Indeed, the choice to tell that story again, of the elite group of soldiers that were sent to rescue Europe’s greatest cultural achievements, is an interesting one to be sure.
Call of Duty: WWII is scheduled for release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
