Developers of the Persona series, Atlus, have revealed today that there will be a new game in the series coming to the Nintendo 3DS. The title is Persona Q2 and will likely serve as a sequel to Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth, though this hasn’t been confirmed yet. As the Persona series is notorious for its twists and turns, it is really anyone’s best guess how this new title will relate to previous games. Sometimes the games don’t relate in anything more than name and some main gameplay elements.
The Japanese website announcing the title shows nothing more than the title of the game and a large animated version of the Phantom Thieves logo from Persona 5. This might mean anything from some of the characters from the game being included, to a familiar logo that will throw keen players off the trail. Since the previous Persona Q game was a crossover, another theory is that the Q2 might mean another enormous crossover game, with characters from Persona 3, and Persona 4 and 5.
If that is true, Persona Q2 will likely be a first-person dungeon crawler too. Shadow of the Labyrinth was not completely graduated from the Persona gameplay, there are elements in the game that compare beyond the many crossover characters. The story might not be as in-depth as most main Persona games, but the interactions between so many favorite characters certainly makes up for it. The combat is also quite a bit of fun, as there is always a new challenge ahead, along with some interesting puzzles so it doesn’t feel like a complete grind.
The announcement of Persona Q2 also comes with the unveiling of a Persona 3 dancing game coming on the PS4, and another based on Persona 5 coming to the PS4 and PS Vita. They are both considered spin-offs and will released in the spring of 2018.
