Middle-earth: Shadow of War Coming To Mobile

Warner Bros. has announced today that there will be a mobile version of Middle-earth: Shadow of War coming sometime this fall. The game will be free-to-play and feature real-time strategy battle systems. On top of all the characters you’ll be meeting in Shadow of War, like Eltariel, the mobile game will also include characters from the previous game, Shadow of Mordor like Celebrimbor himself, along with the original Lord of the Rings trilogy characters, like Gimili and Boromir.

Though Shadow of War is developed by Monolith, the mobile version has been lovingly developed by IUGO Mobile Entertainment. If you’re worried that by mobile, they really mean “iOS”, you needn’t fear. Shadow of War mobile will arrive on the iPhone, iPad, and all Android devices.

More so, if your pre-register for the game you can get all kinds of goodies. For the Apple version, you’ll receive “an exclusive character bundle” that includes “Ratbag and an Orc starter army.” So if anyone asks ‘you and what army’, you’ll already have one to show them. For Android users, you’ll get Shelob in her human form as a playable character. And you can bet she won’t be sitting pretty for the whole fight. For both Apple and Android users, all of the pre-register bonus content will be available at launch.

All of that said, Shadow of War mobile will not be exactly like the console versions. The story will likely be there, though they haven’t made that entirely clear, and the Nemesis System will be included. This way you can build your own Orc army on your phone as well as in the full game. Warner Bros. also touts that you can “create countless personal game experiences” but it is unlikely that will be mean an open world where you can go anywhere you like, much less forming your own storylines.
