Black Mirror Remake Release Date November 2017

This remake will be "a new interpretation" and builds on the strengths of the older series.

After all these years, Black Mirror is finally getting a reboot, from publishers THQ Nordic and developers King Art Games.

The Black Mirror announcement trailer below doesn’t show much, but anyone who played the game back in 2003 can at least remember that iconic church with its glowing yellow clock. The new game will be out November 28, 2017 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Both developer teams are thrilled about the project. As producer at THQNordic Martin Kreuch states that this remake will be “a new interpretation” and builds on the strengths of the older series. This will create “fresh possibilities” in the gameplay, as it will no longer be limited to the point and click adventure it was before.

Producer of Black Mirror (and the original producer of Black Mirror II) Achim Heidelauf is also a part of the team. He’ll be making sure this remake is just as immersive and filled with the classic gothic horror the original was. There’s plenty to explore in this new game, as Heidelauf states that “the human psyche is a fascinating playground!” Indeed it is, especially in gothic horror.

If you don’t already know, gothic horror refers to a genre focused on the psychological aspects of the mind. Sometimes it’s about mental illness, like Layers of Fear, sometimes it’s about the monsters you don’t see until you do, like Resident Evil VII. Sometimes it’s both, like Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. Atmosphere and letting the audience imagine the horror is often the most powerful form of horror, rather than the blood and gore the Saw movies series favors so much.

According to creative director Jan Theysen, the new Black Mirror will provide just that, an “unsettling atmosphere” filled with “the meticulous detail that the fans of a Black Mirror title have come to expect.” Combined with high quality voice acting and the beautiful gothic horror style of Edgar Allen Poe, you can’t possibly go wrong with this remake.
