Until Dawn Prequel The Inpatient Trailer And Release Date
What's a horror game series without an asylum.
The bond between PSVR and horror games continue with the trailer announcement of the Until Dawn prequel, The Inpatient. The game will release exclusively for the PSVR on November 21, 2017.
There is not clear connection between The Inpatient and Until Dawn beyond the setting of Blackwood Sanatorium. What’s a horror game series without an asylum. In Until Dawn, you visit the sanatorium as one of the locations in the game, and it appears in the spinoff shooter, Rush of Blood, also a PSVR game.
The Inpatient sets Blackwood Sanatorium to the period where it apparently still held employees and patients, 60 years before the events of Until Dawn. As the title of the game might suggest, you play the part of a patient who has conveniently forgotten who they are and why they are in the asylum.
According to the developers, Supermassive Games, The Inpatient will force the player to make all kinds of tough decisions that lead to multiple endings. Of course there is no mention of what these endings or decisions might involve. Hopefully we will find out more in the coming months as the game nears its release date.
Indeed, if The Inpatient follows the same route as Until Dawn, there will likely be a few PSVR bundles with the game come the holiday season. With the recent price cut to the system, it is a real possibility that we will see more exclusive titles sold with PSVR.
That said, The Inpatient marks yet another game for the Until Dawn series that is exclusive to the PSVR. As much as fans of the original game would like to see another title for the PS4, it seems the focus is on VR. It has even been confirmed that Until Dawn 2 is not in active development at the moment, but it is on the Supermassive to do list. Though if the sequel is delayed much longer, Sony might place the IP in the hands of another studio.
Nonetheless, in the meantime we get The Inpatient come November. Will it manage to do something different from all the other haunted asylum games? What unique difference would you like to see in The Inpatient? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
