Middle-Earth: Shadow of War DLC Now Free

Monolith Productions have pulled the price tag from the DLC.

The Forthog Orc-Slayer DLC was created for the late Michael Forgey, the original executive producer of Middle-Earth: Shadow of War. Forgey tragically died of cancer and the profits from the DLC were to go towards the family he left behind.

That said, Monolith Productions made the conscious choice not to promote the donation outside of the US. Unfortunately due to this decision, fans grew suspicious as to where the funds from countries outside of the US were going. This was all the more aggravated with Monolith was legally bound not to answer that question directly, for fear of violating various charity and marketing laws in those international countries.

As such, Monolith decided to announce yesterday that this is more trouble than it’s worth. They have pulled the price tag from the DLC and are handing out refunds to everyone who purchased the DLC.

There is now a YouCaring page dedicated to donations directly to the Forgey family, the link is below if you wish to contribute. To be absolutely and perfectly clear, all donations that were made, regardless of their origin, are going towards the Forgey family. This was the case the entire time, but the aforementioned confusion has caused the studio to switch gears.

The DLC itself immortalizes Forgey as Forthog Orc-Slayer, a mysterious character who aids the main characters Talion and Celebrimbor. In the trailer he is shown to be taking on approximately five Orcs, and then an entire army with nothing more than his heavy hammer and pleased smirk. The character is in the likeness of the late Michael Forgey.

It is certainly an unfortunate turn of events that has this DLC free. Perhaps with this new announcement, fans will be more inclined to favor the situation now that it is absolutely clear where the money is going.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of War will be out on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC come October 10, 2017.
