Metal Gear Survive Beta Coming January 18
It's just another zombie game with a Metal Gear skin slapped on.
Konami has revealed a few more details about Metal Gear Survive. These include single player and co-op mode gameplay presented to us by the game’s producer, Yuji Korekado. It seems that Metal Gear Survive is to be treated as a spin-off and occurs after the events of Metal Gear Solid V.
The main character is not sucked into the wormhole immediately, but sent in later by some military body or another. And there you stay, with apparently no way back, but we’ll see for sure when more details come out.
Whilst on the other side of the wormhole, it up to the player to protect their home base camp from Wanderers (the red lyrium infused zombies in this game). You run around collecting materials to craft weapons, equipment (like an oxygen tank that lets you walk through poisonous mist), buildings for your camp, and even gardens for food.
You are supposed to expand your camp with a variety of necessities in order to house more survivors and increase your chances of survival. Any other larger goal was not mentioned. Wanderers will be able to attack your base camp whenever they please, so it’s important to have these defenses regardless of the game’s motivations.
Crafting isn’t just a matter of gathering the right materials either, you need the recipes. Some more powerful recipes can only be found in the game’s multiplayer. The co-op mode seems to be focused on taking down particularly tough enemies in certain areas, rather fighting each other to the death. The idea is work as a team and share the rewards.
Since Metal Gear is generally known for its in-depth story and usually dynamic gameplay, Metal Gear Survive seems lackluster thus far. It’s just another zombie game with a Metal Gear skin slapped on, and you don’t even get to interact with characters from the original games. None of that plot appears to be present here, the point seems to literally be, survive.
If you’re still not he fence about this game, Konami is offering a beta for the PS4 and Xbox One on January 18, 2018 until January 21. If you join in on the multiplayer, you’ll receive an in-game bonus in the form of a Fox Hound name plate, an accessory Metal Gear REX Head and Accessory bandana.
Metal Gear Survive will release in full February 20, 2018 on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
