Castle of Heart Coming to Switch in March

Inspired by the likes of Castlevania and Dark Souls, Castle of Heart is looking to deliver a fresh take on the medieval setting. It’s a side-scrolling action-platformer that looks like it may test both patience and skill.

Developed by 7Levels, they describe the game as “a classic action-platformer at the genre’s best… and most challenging, with plentiful of new twists on the formula to experience.” It was initially slated with a Q1 release window. Today, via the game’s new trailer, we now know exactly when in Q1 Castle of Heart is targeting – March 23rd. The game is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch and will list on the eShop for $14.99.

You’re thrust into the role of a cursed knight who has been turned to stone thanks to an evil sorcerer’s spell. As your knight takes on damage, he’ll lose portions of his body as it crumbles away. This has adverse effects in-game. If you lose an arm, you can no longer wield a weapon with it. However, slaying enemies will restore you back to health.

Castle of Heart gets its inspiration from Slavic mythology, says 7Levels. It sports 3D graphics with changing background landscapes and various weather conditions. It certainly looks like it was inspired by games like Castlevania and Dark Souls.

Those who have been hands on with the game at various events have come away impressed. It features 50 different types of weapons, both long range and short. And the quest will take place across 20 different levels set within 4 distinct locales. The developers said it should take roughly seven hours to complete.

We’ll have to wait and see whether Castle of Heart has the right to be compared to the likes of Dark Souls and Castlevania. But it certainly looks fun. Only a month to go before we’ll have the opportunity to find out for ourselves on the Switch.
