Yager, the developers who brought us Spec Ops: The Line and Dreadnaught, have revealed their newest game to the public today. They’re calling it The Cycle, and they describe their new game as “a match-based First Person Shooter with a twist.”
Today’s trailer which you can see above doesn’t really show us much, so we’ll have to take Yager’s word on how the game works. The developers state that the first person shooter revolves around a quest system in which players can make and break alliances on a whim. “Anyone can attack anyone, and anyone can ally with anyone.” Here’s the synopsis:
“In The Cycle the explored galaxy is controlled by massive Factions, but the mysterious outer reaches are still up for grabs. In their race to control these frontier resources, the Factions need contractors to do their dirty work. You are one of these contractors, competing for objectives such as collecting minerals or hunting wildlife while being careful to avoid or take down the competition.”
The Cycle is trying to differ from most shooters and battle royale titles in that it’s essentially PvE and PvP. You’ll explore the planet Fauna III which is described as “a hostile, beautiful new world, full of fortune, alien life, and other players looking to take its riches.” However on Fauna III is a storm limiting your time period in which to explore. If you stay too long, you may find yourself permanently trapped on the foreign planet.
As you collect riches, you can use them to purchase various weapons within the game’s black market. Or you can use materials that you find to craft items to aid you on the game’s many quests. And you can customize your load outs too in order to make them reflect your personal style.
If you’re intrigued, you can sign up to take part in alpha testing which Yager says will begin “soon”. Only a PC version is confirmed at this point, but it sounds as though Yager is hoping to get console versions of the game out too.
