Yacht Club Games has announced when we’ll be getting the 4th and final expansion to their hit indie title, Shovel Knight. The studio said we’ll get our hands on the Shovel Knight: King of Cards expansion in April.
Just like Plague of Shadows and Specter of Torment before it, King of Cards takes one of the characters from Shovel Knight and expounds upon the their back story. Here, King Knight must travel the lands and conquer the Three Kings who rule over them in order to become the one true monarch of the realm.
And just like Plague Knight and Specter Knight in the two previous expansions, King Knight plays dramatically differently than the titular Shovel Knight. King Knight sports the ability to bash attack his foes and utilizes a spinning attack too. Shovel Knight: King of Cards also has a new mini-game based around card battling within it. Which makes sense given the expansion’s title.
Yacht Club Games also announced earlier this week that we’ll be getting the title’s multiplayer offering in April. Dubbed Shovel Knight Showdown, the upcoming expansion introduces a competitive fight game under the Shovel Knight guise. Just like King of Cards, the new mode will be free to everyone that purchased Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. However Showdown will not be making it to the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita systems.
Shovel Knight: King of Cards and Shovel Knight Showdown both release on April 9th. The duo of new expansions are likely to be the final ones we get unless Yacht Club decides to develop a Shovel Knight sequel. If you’re a fan of 8-bit gaming and you’ve yet to pick-up Treasure Trove, consider grabbing it as it truly represents one of the better deals in gaming. Treasure Trove, which packages every bit of Shovel Knight content, is currently available digitally for $24.99.
