Lucasfilm, under their relatively new development studio ILMxLAB, has a new Star Wars series headed our way. But it’s not being designed for television or film. Instead, our first Vader Immortal trailer introduces us to a brand new VR experience set within a galaxy far, far away.
The first installment of the series, which today’s Vader Immortal trailer teases us toward, is officially titled Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series – Episode 1. Set during the beginning stages of Episode 1, the Vader Immortal trailer shows a Star Destroyer that’s pulled from hyperspace into the atmosphere of the planet Mustafar. As seen in film within Rogue One (and during Anakin’s battle with Obi Wan Kenobi in Episode 3), this is the planet in which Darth Vader primarily resides.
The Vader Immortal trailer then offers us a glimpse at our character’s interaction with Lord Vader. With what appears to be James Earl Jones voicing the iconic role, Vader states “You may wonder why I have brought you here.” But before we get any answers, the Vader Immortal trailer cuts to the VR series’ title card.
Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series is being written and executive produced by David S. Goyer. Goyer helped develop scripts for many of DC’s film properties, including The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He also helmed ILMxLAB’s previous Star Wars VR experience, Secrets of the Empire.
There will be 3 episodes total within the Vader Immortal VR series. The canon will reside between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. It will also link up with Secrets of the Empire in some way.
Details other than the above are slim at this point. As far as a release date goes, ILMxLAB has confirmed that Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series – Episode 1 will be premiering in 2019. For more new Star Wars content, checkout the latest Star Wars: Resistance trailer that dropped earlier today.
