Kingdom Hearts – The Story So Far Compilation Announced

If you’ve yet to jump into the Kingdom Hearts series, Square Enix just announced a package that might be the best reason to do so yet. The publisher has confirmed Kingdom Hearts – The Story So Far for PlayStation 4. The title is a compilation of all prior Kingdom Hearts projects released to date.

The history of releases in the Kingdom Hearts series is a confusing one. Square Enix has released numerous compilations for the series in the past. Each iterating on prior versions to declare themselves the definitive product. With Kingdom Hearts – The Story So Far, all of the most advanced iterations come together in one package.

Kingdom Hearts – The Story So Far is essentially a bundle housing Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 Remix and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue (don’t even get us started on the convoluted names). Within each of those titles comes the following:

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 Remix:

  • Kingdom Hearts Final Mix
  • Kingdom Hearts TS Re:Chain of Memories
  • Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (HD Remastered cinematics)
  • Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix
  • Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix
  • Kingdom Hearts Re:coded (HD Remastered cinematics)

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue

  • Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD
  • Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep –A fragmentary passage–
  • Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover (movie)

It was over 2 years ago that Square Enix first discussed possibly porting these older titles over to the PlayStation 4. Obviously ahead of Kingdom Hearts 3’s release they’ve finally decided to do so. The publisher is listing Kingdom Hearts – The Story So Far for $39.99 exclusively on PlayStation 4. It’s scheduled to hit shelves on October 30th. Kingdom Hearts 3 arrives for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in January and brings with it a pretty robust voice cast.
