Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and IO Interactive have confirmed a new multiplayer experience that’s debuting for the Hitman franchise. They’re calling it Hitman 2 Ghost Mode, and it will pit two players against each other to complete hits in real time.
Here’s how the publisher and developer explain the newly revealed Hitman 2 Ghost Mode:
“Agent 47 is the world’s deadliest assassin, and the only person who can match him in skill, stealth and execution is… himself. Therefore, Ghost Mode allows two players to compete against each other online, both as Agent 47, to assassinate the most targets in a match. At the start of each round, both players begin side-by-side and must race to take out the same targets faster and cleaner than their opponent, while utilizing weapons, items, outfits and ghost crate supply drops along the way to help accomplish the overall mission.”
As you can see in the trailer above, the unique twist to this new multiplayer mode for the series is that your real time opponent can be seen as a “ghost” on the map. As they roam around the map attempting to earn their kills, you’ll see them do so. This lets you know whether you have time to execute hits quietly and efficiently, or whether you need to be hazardous and rush through the jobs to catch up to your competition.
While playing Hitman 2 Ghost Mode, you and your opponent will have the same starting point at the same starting time with the same starting targets. The object is to be the first player to record 5 successful kills. IO Interactive confirmed that within the new multiplayer mode, “targets are randomly selected every time so no duel will be the same.”
Each player will start Hitman 2 Ghost Mode with no equipment. So as the match begins you’ll have to strategize efficiently to equip yourself while simultaneously advancing toward your target. IO states that players will be in their own universes as well. Meaning if one players goes guns blazing and causes complete chaos, that will have zero effect on the other player in their game.
With Hitman 2 Ghost Mode and other new additions like the World of Assassination, this Hitman sequel just keeps sounding better and better. We’ll see if it nails its target when it arrives November 13th.
