Ape Out Release Date Set for February

Coming to us from Gabe Cuzzillo, Ape Out is an upcoming smash ’em up title that’s being published courtesy of Devolver Digital. The publisher dropped a fresh trailer for us today showing the game in action, and within it, announced that they’ve set the Ape Out release date for February.

The title is a highly stylized, savage beat ’em up that puts you in the role of an escaped gorilla. Levels are riddled with guards hoping to impede your escape. But their efforts are in vain, as the gist of the game sees you savagely eliminating these threats to your freedom with swift movements and brute force.

Another key component that makes us excited for the Ape Out release date is the titles’ soundtrack. With sound design by Matt Boch, the game’s intense violence is accented beautifully by Boch’s score. The unique art style is fantastic as well, which comes to us courtesy the efforts of Bennett Foddy.

Devolver Digital’s CFO, Fork Parker, played on the absurd nature of the title with his statement earlier today:

“Our team is pleased to finally announce a release date for one of our most anticipated titles ever in Ape Out. Frankly, it was a lot harder to motion capture an ape than we had originally thought and recording primates ripping human corpses apart is generally frowned upon in most countries.”

Devolver Digital announced that the Ape Out release date would be set for February 7th for PC and Nintendo Switch. There’s no word at this point whether versions are being designed for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. If you’re not sure whether the title is for you, the team describes it as “the most intense fucking thing you’ve ever played.” Which makes sense considering you’re running around as a massive gorilla dismantling human bodies at will.
