Originally released back in December 2018, the Diablo 3 Loot Goblin amiibo is now available for preorder directly from the Nintendo UK Store for £14.99. Orders will start shipping in May 2019 and are limited to one per customer.
This amiibo is used exclusively with the Diablo 3: Eternal Collection available on Nintendo Switch. This figure can be scanned once a day. When used, it will transform into a “shimmering golden portal to The Vault—the mysterious and treasure-filled realm of the Treasure Goblins and their enigmatic Baroness, Greed,” as explained in Blizzard’s original press release. The, once a day, cooldown is not shared with party members so you can easily share the amiibo’s functionality with others.
The Loot Goblin amiibo is also one of the few 3rd party amiibo in existence as it was made by Blizzard, not Nintendo. Some other notable 3rd party amiibo include Shovel Knight. In fact, that franchise is slated to get more amiibo from the developer, Yacht Club Games, later this year.
The cap on how many someone can order is most likely an attempt to avoid scalping. While the “amiibo crisis” is no longer a lived reality for Nintendo fans it’s still wise to preorder as soon as possible if you want an item. It’s never clear when an item will be back in stock so it’s best to act fast, especially if you’re going for a complete set.
Here, in the United States, the Diablo 3 Loot Goblin amiibo was a GameStop Exclusive. As a result, it is still sold for upwards of $50 on ebay. That’s a markup of over 333%, in relation to the original price of the item. It’s unclear if GameStop’s supply of this figure will ever be replenished but the fact that Nintendo has released a new batch in the UK is a good sign for collectors everywhere.
