If you’ve been working on your Tetris 99 skills over the last month, you’re moment to shine has finally arrived. Nintendo revealed their Tetris 99 Maximus Cup Event today. A competition that can net potential winners with a decent amount of My Nintendo Gold Points.
Tetris 99 Maximus Cup Event will begin this Friday, March 8th at 8:00 a.m. Eastern, 5:00 a.m. Pacific. The competition will run until Sunday, March 10th 11:59 p.m. Pacific, which would be Monday, March 11th at 2:59 a.m. Eastern.
The goal of the Tetris 99 Maximus Cup Event is to secure as many wins as you can throughout the duration of the event. For each win that earn, you’ll be awarded a “Tetris Maximus” designation on your results screen.
Following the Tetris 99 Maximus Cup Event conclusion on March 10th/11th, Nintendo will be awarding My Nintendo Gold Points to the 999 players with the most Tetris Maximus’ accrued. Each of the 999 players that win will receive 999 My Nintendo Gold Points, which equates to $10 towards future digital purchases on Switch through the Nintendo eShop.
Announced during a Nintendo Direct in February, Tetris 99 is a battle royale-styled Tetris title exclusive to those subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online. In it, 99 players compete side-by-side online as they navigate their Tetriminos in an effort to tally up combos and tetris. Doing so has an adverse affect on your competition, giving you more of a shot at being the last Tetris 99 player standing.
The competitive puzzler has taken online Switch players by storm since its debut just a few weeks ago. It’s low entry level yet legitimate depth makes it a “just one more game” type of title that’s a fit for nearly everyone. As Nerd Much?’s own Janet Garcia covered quite eloquently in our Tetris 99 Proves Tetris Will Never Die piece from last month.
So hop into Tetris 99 and try to rack up those Tetris Maximus’ while you can. And if you’re not quite at that level, keep practicing. The Tetris 99 Maximus Cup Event surely won’t be Nintendo’s last.
