Turtle Rock Studios is going back to what they know and love. After the lukewarm reception of Evolve, the studio is developing a new cooperative zombie shooter from the ground up. In partnership with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Back 4 Blood has been announced.
Turtle Rock states that Back 4 Blood is a “premium title and marries the best of what made the co-op zombie shooter so successful with new features and state-of-the-art technology.” The team confirmed it will be a first-person shooter with a fleshed out story. However, they aren’t ready to go into details yet.

In fast, the studio really didn’t seem to divulge much at all about the upcoming game. In their FAQ, they continually suggest to follow the team’s Discord channel for updates. And they stated that the only reason they made the game public at this point is to recruit talent to help develop the game.
They did tease that Back 4 Blood will have a campaign, and it will also feature PvP elements. The developers confirmed it will not be a battle royale game, and that it is not a continuation of the Left 4 Dead series.
Co-founder and Design Director at Turtle Rock Studios, Chris Ashton, expressed excitement “to return to a genre that was born in our studio with over ten years of additional experience and zombie ideas racked up in our brains.” The team’s other Co-founder and Creative Director, Phil Robb, promised “We are not resting on any past laurels. Our goal is to take all we’ve learned and push forward.”
Like all the other details that remain vague, a release window is anybody’s guess as well. Though Turtle Rock did confirm the game is being developed for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. They also noted “More possibilities aren’t out of the question though.” For other zombie titles that we do have details on, checkout Nerd Much?’s list covering the games coming in 2019.
