April Games with Gold Lineup Revealed

Microsoft has announced their April Games with Gold titles coming for free to Xbox Live Gold members. It’s a poor showing on the Xbox One side of things, but a couple of older games making a come back could be exciting to some.

The Technomancer is the first Xbox One game headed our way next month. Released in 2016 and developed by Spiders, The Technomancer is a sci-fi action RPG set in a post-apocalyptic world. It revolves around the War of Water some 200 years after humans have colonized Mars.

Most sites were overly impressed with the title when it launched. It holds Metacritic scores of 56 and 60 on PC and PlayStation 4 respectively. But the Xbox One version appears to be the standout with a Metascore of 68. You can download The Technomancer the entire month of April.

The second Xbox One title coming our way is Bigben Interactive’s Outcast: Second Contact. The game is a remake of Infogrames’ 1999 action-adventure PC title, Outcast.

Just like our other April offering, Second Contact wasn’t considered a home run by critics. Metacritic has it sitting at 67 for the Xbox One edition. You can download the game for free and give it a whirl between April 16th and May 15th.

Our Xbox 360 (and Xbox One via backwards compatibility) April Games with Gold offerings are a bit better than our previous two options. Microsoft is giving away the original Xbox’s Star Wars: Battlefront 2. Originally released in 2015, the title was a fan favorite and finally settled in with a Metascore of 83 following its Xbox debut.

For those still boycotting EA’s modern Star Wars: Battlefront 2, Microsoft has you covered with this old-school gem. It’s available for free to Xbox Live Gold members from April 1st through April 15th.

Our last April Games with Gold title is Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2. Though also quite dated (it released in 2007 for Xbox 360), “GRAW 2” was beloved by the avid tactical shooter community. You’ll want to pick Ubisoft’s offering up and give it a try, despite its dated looks. It holds an 86 on Metacritic and is available to download from April 16th through April 30th.
