Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 3.0 Arrives Today

The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 3.0 update will arrive for Switch owners today. Nintendo took some time to go into pretty deep detail on what’s included. And the new features certainly seem to warrant the jump to the designated 3.0 build.

The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 3.0 content trailer opens up with Joker’s debut as a playable fighter in a Persona 5 themed trailer. The trailer then goes through the DLC character’s various abilities, as well as showcases his personalized stage in Mementos. Within it comes 11 music tracks stemming from various titles within the Persona series.

Nintendo also touched upon Mii Fighter Costumes Round #1, an assortment of Mii Fighter premium attire that comes in at 75 cents each. A bunch are Persona inspired, including the Morgana Hat, the Persona 4 Protagonist (Swordfighter), the Teddie Hat, and the Persona 3 Protagonist (Swordfighter). But there’s Sonic the Hedgehog content here too, featuring a Tails (Gunner) costume and a Knuckles (Brawler) costume.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 3.0 also brings some new modes with it. Perhaps most exciting of which is the return of Stage Builder. You can design with the Switch’s touchscreen in handheld mode and give them a whirl immediately. There’s even an ability to add layers to your design for a professional finish.

A Video Editor is being included with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 3.0 too. It’s pretty robust, allowing you to edit frames, choose soundtracks, implement transitions and more. You can then export your creations via the game’s new Shared Content feature which allows you to share your creations with other Smash Bros. players around the globe.

Shared Content isn’t just about pictures and clips though. The mode also allow you to download Mii Fighters and custom stages from the other Ultimate designers out there. Players can upvote quality content, making it easier for the good stuff to stand out.

Nintendo also unveiled their Smash World service. It can be found within the Nintendo Switch Online mobile app itself. Here, you can browse shared video, stages, Mii Fighters and more. When you find something you like, you can select it to queue. Then the next time you boot up Smash the content will be listed as ready to download.

The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 3.0 goes live today. And with such a plethora of content announced and ready, hopefully that paves the way for an Animal Crossing Direct, whether at E3 or before.
