E3 2019 is likely to be a packed event for Nintendo. With plenty to talk about like Animal Crossing, Pokémon Sword and Shield, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Fire Emblem: Three Houses and more, plenty of titles could fall under their collective shadows. So with Super Mario Maker 2 arriving for Nintendo Switch on June 28th, the publisher wanted to ensure the highly anticipated sequel got a spotlight of its own. And thus, a Super Mario Maker 2 Direct is set for tomorrow.
Nintendo didn’t state what to expect from the Super Mario Maker 2 Direct, but it’s pretty easy to surmise. They confirmed the presentation with be 15 minutes long and will be “packed with information all about Super Mario Maker 2 for Nintendo Switch.”
The Super Mario Maker 2 Direct will likely focus on what sets it apart from its predecessor. So far we know that the sequel will incorporate new additions environmental mechanics such as slopes and modifiable auto-scroll direction. But there will be a slew of smaller bells and whistles too, many of which originate from Super Mario World on the SNES.
In previous trailers we’ve seen wind gusts and the Angry Sun which will chase you. There are now desert, jungle and snow themed levels. There are now snake blocks and water hazards in non-water levels. New enemies include the Porcupuffer fish, Ant Troopers, Stingby Bees, Skipsqueak, Green Hop-Chop, Super Mario 64’s Bullys, Umbrella Paratroopas, the Lunging Bungee Piranha Plant, Giant Bullet Bills and Boom Booms.
We’ve also seen rising water utilized, colored pipes, On/Off Switch Blocks, vertical scrolling, climbable fences, Piranha Creeper vines, large coins and a coin counter to give the game more depth. And it’s even been confirmed that we’ll get Super Mario 3D World themes and its Cat suit.
