Xbox avatar wheelchairs will soon be an option. By popular demand, the feature will work to provide more personable options. It’s surprising no one had thought of it sooner.
The idea stemmed from Xbox co-creator Seamus Blackley. In a Twitter post, Blackley wondered how simple it might be to add Xbox avatar wheelchairs as an option. It really just comes down to a matter of how the skeletons are done for the avatars themselves.
Soon after, another user suggested that they start a petition to make this a possibility. This is when Xbox boss Phil Spencer swooped in to say, “No petition needed, we hear you. This is something that we’ve already looked at, not far off.”
Today, thanks to Xbox engineering lead Mike Ybarra, we have some early builds of the new Xbox avatar wheelchairs.
We personally like the look of them. They aren’t trying to glorify the wheelchair any, it’s just a wheelchair. What really makes this special is that it gives players another way to really show off who they are to others around the world. If you aren’t a fan of the design, you should feel better knowing that these are still a work in progress.
We hope that this is the first step in giving players the ability to really put themselves out there online. It’s just another way that the gaming community can help people enjoy what makes them different.
