The details come from a new video from Bethesda titled What is Prey? President of Arkane, Raphael Colantonio, explains some of the new Prey details since moving studios. The game is “not a sequel, not a remake, it has no tie with the original. You have to look at it like a re-imagining of the IP.”
This re-imagining aims to blend story and gameplay. “It is important to note that’s it’s not just shooting,”says Colantonio. “It’s more like a hybrid game where there’s, like, narrative meets with action meets with a little bit of RPG. You have some weapons, but you also have lots of other things including powers that you can learn from the aliens themselves.”
Other new Prey details include the weapons you’ll be using. Fans of the previous entry will see some familiar weapons along with newer gadgets that have been repurposed from the space station. Just like with Dishonored, the game will contain choices and consequences. It will weave together a story that’s “not horror. The psychological thrill dimension is more around the theme of identity.”
Additionally, Colantonio talks about why the name Morgan was chosen for the main character. To put it simply, it’s gender neutral. Players will be able to choose between a male and female character before the story begins.
Prey releases in 2017 for PS4, Xbox, and PC.
