Shenmue 3 has a new sub-director in the form of Keiji Okayasu. For those who don’t know, he was the game director for the original game in the series.
The announcement comes from the official Kickstarter page for Shenmue 3. In this reveal, Okayasu mentions how he served as a sub-director for about “70%” of Shenmue 2. He continues by discussing how he plans to help with the production of the third game.
“Of course I want to help finish the game, and do it so the fans will be satisfied,” said Okayasu. “That means making it interesting for everyone who played one and two, and everyone who will be experiencing Shenmue for the first time”
Okayasu then goes into what he thinks makes the series what it is. “What I personally want to stress for my part, is what makes Shenmue, Shenmue. The game has an utterly unique atmosphere, and I want that all to be breathed in,” he continued. “As you play along, you feel the ambiance, the milieu, from place to place, getting that full sensory experience… With Shenmue 3 that aspect will not be disregarded, and I will keep it alive and well as we continue development.
The next part in the series raised over $6.3 million from about 63,000 backers on Kickstarter. We are excited to finally see how the story continues!
