A Firewatch movie has just been announced today! Good Universe is teaming up with developer Campo Santo to create content for both video games and movies.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two companies will first be working together on a film adaptation of Campo Santo’s Firewatch.
If you somehow missed this indie darling, Firewatch is a first-person adventure game set in the Wyoming wilderness. A new fire lookout named Henry (Mad Men’s Rick Sommer) discovers some mysterious occurrences. By talking to Delilah (The Walking Dead’s Cissy Jones) over a walkie-talkie, you will slowly piece the evidence together.
More From Nerd Much?:
“When we met Good Universe we were floored by how they recognize, cultivate and produce incredible stories,” said Campo Santo founder Sean Vanaman. “It’s rare you meet another group that shares so many of your values and makes the process of creating things even more exciting. We can’t wait to see what we make together.”
Luckily, Good Universe’s co-founder Joe Drake shared the same appreciation for the Firewatch movie. “Finding extraordinary content is incredibly exciting, and with the Campo Santo team, we felt an immediate simpatico with their utterly beguiling storytelling and amazing creative instincts.”
There is still no word on when the Firewatch movie is expected to release. With such a well-written script and great voice acting, Firewatch could easily be adapted into a movie. Even the voice actors already tied to the game could reprise their roles. We are extremely excited for this endeavor and we’re crossing our fingers for something great.
