Nintendo Switch support has been growing since its announcement trailer just yesterday. New to the list of partnerships is Unreal Engine 4. This one is big.
Before you start singing to the hilltops about the power of the Nintendo Switch, keep in mind that this is completely unrelated. Instead, this Nintendo Switch support is important for another reason, the games.
The announcement was made yesterday on the Unreal Engine Twitter page. “We’re thrilled to partner with Nintendo to help Unreal Engine 4 developers bring their games to Nintendo Switch!”
Unreal Engine 4 currently powers games like Street Fighter V and Gears of War 4. Since 2014, the engine has been available to developers for just $19 a month and a 5% cut of the revenue from any game made with it.
Basically, this means that it has grown incredibly popular among indie developers. It’s affordable and versatile, allowing them to explore their visions. What this means for Nintendo is a lot of Nintendo Switch support. While they have already grown more indie support over the years, it is still leaps and bounds behind competitors like Sony or Microsoft. We are hoping this is the start of a better Nintendo. One where games feel right at home. We can’t wait to hear more.
