Kojima has opened an independent studio known as none other than Kojima Productions. Joining him on his journey are Metal Gear Solid artist Yoji Shinkawa and producer Kenichiro.
Lucky for Playstation fans, Kojima has partnered with Sony for his first project. He isn’t ready to reveal any details, but he was happy to talk about his goals. “I want to create something that’s what people expect, but at the same time will have something new that people haven’t seen before,” Kojima said. “We’ll be able to do things that are more edgy, preserving the quality we’ve had so far, while at the same time finding new challenges and exploring new areas.”
Even though Kojima retained the name of his old studio, you’ll notice the newer logo. It shows a human skull surrounded by something that resembles both a medieval knight or an astronaut’s helmet. “With new technology and a pioneer spirit, we want to bring you to a new realm – within the digital world,” Kojima said. “As for the skeleton, we’re homo sapiens – people of wisdom – but we’re also homo ludens – people who play.”
It should be noted that during this interview with IGN, Hideo Kojima had nothing to comment on about his past involvement with Konami or Metal Gear Solid. Instead he wants to focus on his future.
Speaking of his future, Kojima still would love to work with Guillermo del Toro. He ecplained that this doesn’t necessarily have to be a game either. “I have no idea what I’ll be working on with him, if it’ll be a game, a movie, anime, but someday I definitely want to create something with him,” Kojima said.
Expect to slowly hear more from Kojima now that he is back in the public light.
