The custom designed GoPro Channel app will allow PlayStation owners to stream GoPro content on demand, as well as check out GoPro cameras and accessories. PlayStation is only the latest distribution partner to join up with GoPro, as the action camera company already has an app on Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Sky, LG, Xbox, and Virgin America.
“We want GoPro content and programming to be easily accessible on every platform where our millions of fans spend time,” said Jon Cohen, GoPro’s director, distribution. “There’s a sweet-spot of overlap between PlayStation’s super-engaged audience and the GoPro audience and we’re excited to welcome PlayStation to GoPro’s expanding OTT family.”
As far as the PS4 app is concerned, users will be able to access all the videos related to their favorite action sports like skiing, surfing and drones, search for videos and playlists, navigate to their favorite videos within playlists, and watch product videos to learn more about new GoPro products.
What’s more, PlayStation owners get an exclusive GoPro video, The 66th Parallel: Discovering Iceland with Ben Brown, which will be available on PSn until December 29.
There are plenty of other apps we would rather have. That’s not to say we’re not into what GoPros do, it’s just that the videos can also be found on YouTube, so it seems like a frivolous app.
