Pokemon Super Bowl 50 Ad Coming, Teases ‘Train On!’

Pokemon 20th anniversaryThe Pokemon Company has announced its plans to celebrate Pokemon‘s 20th anniversary throughout 2016. And, apparently, they have big, big plans to do just that.

The biggest announcement made is that there will be a new Pokemon Super Bowl 50 advertisement that will broadcast at some point during the game (which, according to Business Insider, that’ll cost the company $5 million). The Pokemon Company’s official statement didn’t give any details on the upcoming Pokemon ad, only noting that the video “will encourage fans to Train On.”

Of course, after last year’s push for mobile game ads during the Super Bowl, it’s no surprise that more companies are seeing the potential results. We have no idea what the Pokemon Super Bowl ad will tease, but we’d be seriously surprised if it weren’t a brand new Pokemon game.

The second announcement The Pokemon Company made is that on February 27, the franchise’s 20th birthday to the date, “special events” will be held at a number of retailers across the United States. Nintendo will also restock Pokemon amiibo toys for that day, including Charizard, Jigglypuff, Greninja, and Lucario.

The company also reaffirmed that Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow will launch on the Nintendo eShop on February 27. The company also announced a new 3DS Pokemon Hardware bundle that comes with a pre-installed copy of each game, two different cover plates with art from the games, and the 20th anniversary logo.

What’s more, The Pokemon Trading Card Game will get a brand spankin’ new release to celebrate the anniversary, called the “Generations” expansion. It “covers every stage of a Trainer’s journey, from the choice of a first partner Pokemon to the most elite of Trainer battles.” The game will come with Pikachu, Snorlax, Ninetales-EX, Jolteon-Ex, Mega Charizard-EX, Mega Blastoise-EX, and Mega Venusaur-EX. The expansion will make its debut in February.

But, that’s not all Pokemon fans will have to look forward to. The company also announced that there will be new Pokemon animation hitting the market via iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon later this year, including remastered versions of Pokemon: The First Movie and Pokemon the Movie 2000, as well as 10 other feature-length animated movies.

And, lastly, the official Pokemon merchandise website, Pokemoncenter.com, has received brand new things for your purchasing pleasure, including a line of 20th anniversary figures and plush items.
